Benedict Cumberbatch will be back as Doctor Strange in 2022 with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but what starts the titular multiverse of madness?Doctor Strange was last seen returning from the dead in Avengers: Endgame, helping the combined heroes take on Thanos and his forces as the Mad Titan pursued the Infinity Stones for the last time. The film will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe horror film, but may be the second horror-themed Marvel movie if The New Mutants, produced by Fox in 2017 before they were bought by Disney, is released first. Follow-up to the 2018 Marvel film 'Black Panther'.
The title is a play on In the Mouth of Madness which is also a horror movie directed by John Carpenter. Nightmare is the main antagonist in this film. While most MCU films are released under the genres of "Action", "Comedy", "Drama"," "Sci-Fi", and "Fantasy", this will be the first film in the MCU to be released under the "Horror" genre. Directed by Ryan Coogler.
If you count Darkman (1990) as part of the superhero genre, then it will be his fifth.
